East Side Indians

After Snydley self destructed, I joined a band named East Side Indians. We were along the same lines as bands like Bang Tango and Guns and Roses. This was a good band, but it was early 90′s and L.A. style slime bands were on the way out. We never really got traction even though I think we had some pretty good songs.

As most bands, this band was killed by it’s personell. The guy who put the band together, Rich (who we called Rich the Twitch because he was constantly swinging his hair out of his face), was kind of lazy. I don’t know how many meals I bought that guy and rides I gave him because he never had any money. He was a good song writer though, I give him that. Our singer was a good dude who owned his own hair salon and so I always wondered if he really wanted to be in the band or if it was just something on the side for him. We had trouble finding a permanent bass player and went through several sit ins which made gigging hard, but we did play a few small gigs.

Finally we found a really good bass player. A guy who was from Fresno but then moved to L.A. to be a rock star. Well, he came back to Fresno and joined our band. Then Rich promptly fired me when the bass player wanted his drummer from L.A. to play with him. I’ll never forget that.

I never heard anything else from this band and as far as I know, they never did anything.

Hey Dana, you don’t know who I am but we used to play in a band up there in the Visalia/Fresno area when East Side Indians was playing around. Were you still with the band when the keyboard player joined? You guys finished up a show for us at a place somewhere between Visalia and Fresno on Hwy99 back when you all had about 5 songs total. We also did sound one night for you at that place on Mooney Blvd just outside of Visalia on the way to Tulare, I was laughing about the old metal/sleaze rock days and happened to put ESI into the search bar cuz I like your stuff (Mr. Sun) and your sight came up. I laughed when I read Louie’s Zoo. We opened up for Little Ceasar there. Goodtimes!! I was the bass player/singer for the band Defyer a metal/hard rock band ala Y&T, UFO with some Dokken influence thrown in. Good to check out your sight and get a blast from the past. Keep riding!!

Hi. You don’t know me and this might be a completely ridiculous question, but here it is. I used to have a cassette from East Side Indians and have since lost it. I’ve tried for a long time now to find mp3s of them online, to no avail. You wouldn’t happen to have any or know where I could get any do you? Thanks for any help you can give.

Julia, sorry I don’t have any recordings from when I played with East Side Indians. I wish I did, we made some good music.
