Hello, so nice to hear your reaction to your first concert of Andre. Many people have not heard of him and would not go to a ‘classical’ concert. However Andre is in a category all his own and so much fun.

Okay…let me break the cycle and be the first guy to post about Andre Rieu (of course, I must not like him enough to add the accent mark over the “e” in his first name.)

But I agree with your post and all the others when saying that he really does rock. I grew up listening to a lot of classical, especially Strauss, so his style was familiar and yet had a great edge to it as well. I haven`t seen him and his orchestra live as of yet, but I bet it is an experience.

And who knows, maybe I`ll actually LEARN to waltz next

Lovely to hear such positive comments from someone who has not previously attended an André Rieu concert. You have captured in words what many people have experienced in attending their first Rieu concert. André Rieu is not just a superb violinist and entertainer. He has brought so much joy to people the world over through his music and sense of fun.

I really enjoyed reading about your first experience at an André Rieu concert. Having only “discovered” André myself a couple of years ago, I can relate to your happy surprise at finding opera and classical music so enjoyable and fun. His concerts just fill your heart with joy. When you see how much both he and his orchestra love the music and love performing it for us, it is impossible not to feel that same happiness. He really does have a wonderful sense of fun and sense of humor as well as being an extremely talented musician. Glad you enjoyed the concert and I hope you have the opportunity to attend many more.

Yes, Andre Rieu and his orchestra & singers are superb. So pleased that you have discovered him and enjoyed the show. I cant understand the critics who say he is rubbish, surely no one could fail to enjoy the music and entertainment. He has thousands of fans around the world, and I think that says it all.

Hello, Dana, Yes there are quite a few people who think they ‘know’ Andre and what kind of musician he is and what he should be. There are those who say he has wasted his classical training. There are also a few who think he should not play his rare and very valuable Stradivarius violin. There are many who say he chose popularity over being a member of a stuffy, staid orchestra. He tried that and hated it! He just wants to make people happy, and show them classical music is fun and for the people. I saw him in Adelaide, my capital city, last November. It was just wonderful!. Andre is just a very down to earth kind of guy, who adores his family, and is very generous to his musicians. He is, as you discovered, also very funny. I also love the sight gag with the fake bull. It cracks me up every time I watch his, Live in Dublin DVD.

Finally! someone with something positive and nice to say about Andre and his orchestra and music. They are great musicians and great fun, too.
I am fed up with the snobs and naysayers, who for the most part, have never heard or seen him in action. Thank you.
