Today’s Ride: 36 Miles

Today’s ride took us up Auberry road to the thriving metropolis of Prather. This is a good ride with bike lines on both sides of the road all the way there and back. It starts out fairly easy but gets into some good climbs as you approach Prather.

I really didn’t have any problems until about ¾of the way in. There’s a long steady climb there and I found myself really working hard. I pushed on way longer than I should have and when I was almost at the top I thought I was going to throw up so I had to stop. After regaining some of my strength and preparing to get back on the bike, I realized I had not shifted to my lowest front sprocket. I climbed the whole freaking hill in around 5th gear. DOH!!! Next time I’ll watch my shifting and do the whole ride without stopping.

Other than the the ride was uneventful except for the time we stopped on the way down for a quick breather and I couldn’t get my foot out of my new clipless pedals fast enough. I ended up eating concrete, but it wasn’t to bad. The pedals are awesome compared to the crappy toe-clips I had previously. I just gotta get used to unclipping before I stop. My friend Vira told me I’d fall at least once. At least it’s out of the way now.

So it was a good ride. Right now, I honestly can’t see myself doing 69 miles. I’m freaking beat. But I’ve got several weeks to get in shape. I think I’ll be ready.
