I was hoping this would be the year to do my cross country ride. But once again the timing is just not right. Taking 3 weeks off of work and leaving the family behind is just a really difficult thing to schedule. This year won’t be without an epic ride though.
For the past few years my brother and I have gotten a small group together and taken a weeklong ride somewhere. Two years ago it was Death Valley. Last year it was Oregon and the Northern California Coast. This year it will be the Desert Southwest!
We’re taking a 5 day whirlwind tour through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. We leave from Fresno on day 1 and ride to Las Vegas, Nevada for a little gambling fun. Then on day 2 we ride by Lake Mead, across Hoover Dam and on to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Day 3 takes us around the canyon on up to Utah to see Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park. On Day 4 we’ll ride through Red Rock Canyon & Las Vegas, Nevada, back into California through Death Valley, and end up in Lone Pine where we’ll stay at the historic Dow Villa Hotel. Then on Day 5 we’ll head up Hwy 395 where we’ll part ways in Bodie. I’ll come back home through Yosemite National Park.
All said and done we’ll be doing somewhere in the neighborhood of 1800 miles in 5 days. It’s a pretty aggressive schedule but that just means more time on the bike. It should be a fantastic trip!
