Charitable Giving and the Compassionate Democrat

Aron linked to [ this post ] and I wanted to speak to this issue as well because it bugs the heck out of me. It talks about charitable giving and exposes some pretty interesting facts about the Democrats running in this election. To summarize, Joe Biden gave only $995 to charity last year, though he brought home $320,000. Over the last 10 years, he’s brought home $2.4 million dollars, yet only has only given $3600 to charity.

Now I’m not going to boast about how much my wife and I give to charity, because that’s not what this post is about. But I will say that we, and a lot of other regular folks I know, have given more in the past few months than Biden has given in the last 10 years. Obama didn’t do much better until he started on the campaign trail and even now I wouldn’t classify him as an extremely generous guy, especially for all his talk about helping the disadvantaged.

So my question is this… where is this compassion that Democrats always speak of?

It seems to me the only time the Democratic party is compassionate, it’s with MY tax money. What do you think?

Democrats do not endorse charity because to them it is morally wrong to accept such things at the personal level. They are committed to the idea that all charity must come through the government.

    Hey Dana,

I am a democrat and have many friends who are democrats. Also am your neighbor and enjoy your blog, family and love that little stinker, Ferris. I also consider myself a pretty compassionate person and have given 10x what Biden has given in the last five years…though have slowed down a bit recently.

So just wanted you to know one of many democrats who are compassionate givers. See ya ’round.

    See you around.

Hey Lynn! Thanks for reading! I certainly didn’t mean to generalize in this post. I know some compassionate Democrats too. But when examining the party leadership, the walk does not follow the talk. And that bothers me.
