It’s Christmas Eve day and I’m up way too darn early! I have a few hours of work and then I’m off for the holiday. All my Christmas “tasks” are done (aka, shopping), we’ve got food in the fridge and I can’t wait to get home, light up a cigar, crack a Sammy, throw on some Sinatra and r-e-l-a-x!
That’s one of the good things about Christmas, relaxing, hanging with family, etc. But as I sit here this morning and focus on what Christmas is really celebrating, honestly, it’s mind blowing. Sadly, the day has been dramatized and romanticized and commercialized to the point where I think many people simply don’t “get it” anymore. But this day was set aside to remember the day that the God of the universe sent his son to Earth as a man! Not only that, He does it by being born to a virgin no less! And if that isn’t wild enough, the whole purpose of the trip is to DIE, in order to pay the price for OUR sins. Let that sink in for a second.
This is some serious stuff. It really happened. It’s not fantasy, or a warm fuzzy fairy tale. This is no Dr. Suess claymation special on TV. This is a real event that changed the entire face of humanity, the entire course of human history, and changed the entire relationship between God and man. This is more than “family time”. This is the day Jesus entered the Earth to save mankind.
Powerful stuff. Important stuff. Exciting stuff! Let’s not forget it.
From my family to yours, Merry Christmas!
